Understanding payment statuses

Last updated: July 14, 2026

A payment moves through a few stages between when it's sent and when the recipient receives the money. Here's what the main statuses mean.

Payment statuses

  • Waiting to be claimed — The payment has been created and the link is ready. The recipient hasn't opened it or accepted it yet. You can still cancel at this point.

  • Accepted — The recipient opened the link and accepted the payment, but hasn't finished receiving the money yet.

  • On the way / claiming — The recipient chose how to get paid and the transfer is on its way to their card or wallet.

  • Completed — The money has been sent to the recipient's card or wallet. When the funds become available can depend on their bank.

  • Cancelled — The payment was cancelled before it was claimed. No money was sent.

  • Expired — The link wasn't claimed within 10 days, so the payment expired. No money was sent.

  • Didn't go through — The transfer to the recipient's card couldn't be completed. The recipient can try again with a different card.

Good to know

  • You can cancel a payment while it's still waiting to be claimed or after it's been accepted, but not once it's completed. See 📄 How to cancel a payment

  • A completed payment can't be reversed or refunded through Moov Money.
