Common scams to watch out for

Scammers use a handful of tricks over and over. If you can recognize them, you can avoid them. Here are the most common ones.
"Accidental" payment and refund scam
A stranger sends you money, then messages you saying it was a mistake and asks you to send it back. The original payment may later be reversed or turn out to be fraudulent, leaving you out the money you "returned."
What to do: Don't send money back to someone you don't know. If you truly received money by mistake from someone you know, confirm with them directly before doing anything.
Impersonation scams
Someone pretends to be from Moov, your bank, tech support, a government agency, or even a friend or family member. They may say there's a "problem" with your account and pressure you to verify information or move money.
What to do: Moov Money will never contact you to ask for your one-time code or to move your money. Hang up and reach out to the company or person through a number or app you trust.
One-time code (phishing) scams
A scammer tries to get you to share the one-time code we text you, sometimes claiming they need it to "verify" you or "cancel" a charge.
What to do: Never share your one-time code with anyone. That code is what protects your money.
Fake link scams
You receive a link that looks like a payment but leads to a fake site designed to steal your information.
What to do: Only open links that start with https://moov.money/.

Marketplace and "pay first" scams
You're buying or selling online (tickets, a pet, a rental, an item) and the other person asks you to pay before you've received anything, or offers a deal that seems too good to be true.
What to do: Only send money to people you know and trust. Treat Moov Money like cash; once a payment is claimed, it can't be reversed.
Prize, job, or "advance fee" scams
You're told you won a prize, got a job, or qualified for money, but first you have to pay a "fee" or send a payment to receive it.
What to do: Never pay money to receive money. Legitimate prizes and jobs don't work this way.
